  Jhavar, Suyog

Associate Professor, Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies,

Mumbai, India

My research interest caters to the broad areas of manufacturing engineering and material science,of which my current research is mainly focused on additive manufacturing (AM) of metallic parts. My research also includes designing of AM machine tool and architecture along with parametric, metallurgical and mechanical characterization of parts processed through AM. I found myself to be lucky enough of being experienced with variety of AM processes such as co-axial powder feed laser based AM, wire feed plasma based AM as well as pre-placed powder bed selective laser melting AM during this small tenure of my work.

My expertise also entails mathematical modeling and prediction of deposition profile for the improvement of deposition quality. During my work, I found that most of the AM based processes are costly, and are therefore beyond the affordability of small and medium enterprises (SME’s).Continuing this issue, my research is keenly focused on industrial feasibility and applications for which lack of cost effectiveness being a major deterrent. I,then initiated steps to establish a novel micro-plasma transferred arc (µ-PTA)wire deposition process which has proven to be a cost effective and environmental friendlier alternative to the existing ALM processes.
